Yes. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Labour, the operating theatres, the laboratory and the newborn unit are staffed around the clock. For emergencies call +254 778 564 272 before you arrive.
For routine clinics you can attend directly. If you are coming from a Level 1–3 facility, bring the referral form — it keeps your records continuous and helps us plan your care faster. In an emergency, come immediately; stabilisation always comes first.
Bring your original ID or passport (plus a copy), your Mother & Child / ANC booklet, any previous clinic cards or scan reports, and your SHA or insurance details if you have them.
Pumwani offers free and subsidised maternity services to women across the country under government programmes, and accepts SHA cover. Some specialised items may attract fees — always confirm at the official billing office and request an itemised receipt.
A trained birth companion is welcome in most labour areas, subject to ward policy and clinical conditions. Theatre and high-dependency areas are restricted to staff. Speak to the nurse-in-charge when you arrive.

The hospital accepts Social Health Authority cover. Register before your visit when you can — the help desk at Reception assists mothers with registration and cover questions, and your eligibility can be confirmed before admission.
Speak to the nurse-in-charge first — most concerns are resolved on the spot. For anything unresolved, use the feedback form on the contact page, and see the Patient Charter for the full step-by-step process.
